Winter 2026 English Video Competition
- Objectives: To combine SDGs, hospitality and tourism issues, to enhance students’ ability to express themselves in English.

- Result Announcement Date: December 16 (Wednesday), 2026
- Participants: NKUHT students (students whose native or official language is English are not eligible); 2-3 students in a group; maximum of 12 groups.

- Rules:
- File format: Video should be 100-130 seconds. Video that less than 100 seconds or more than 130 seconds will have 5 points deducted from the final score. And the video should be saved in one of the following formats: mp4, .mov or .wmv. The file may not exceed 2 GB.
- There are no restrictions on the type or style of the video. However, each participant must appear in person in the video and contribute an equal share of the English dialogue/content.
- Effects and audio: You may use effects, audio at the beginning, transitions or ending. Do not use background audio when you are presenting English (speaking) as it may affect the judges’ ability to hear you and evaluate.
- Video equipment: You may use a tablet, cellphone, camera, or video recorder to record. Please check the resolution and sound of your film to make sure they are clear.
- Submission: Please upload your video to Google Drive, YouTube or another storage space before November 25, 16:00 P.M. Send the link to ‘mindy28@staff.nkuht.edu.tw’. We will reply to you by email within 3 working days. If you do not receive the email, please call us (ext. 19621).
- Competition topic: Please choose one of the following topics and create a video based on your selected topic.
- Reducing Food Waste in Restaurants 減少餐廳的食物浪費
- UN SDG Focus: SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) & SDG 2 (Zero Hunger)
- Prompt: Imagine you are a restaurant manager. What is one creative way you can reduce food waste in your kitchen or encourage customers not to waste food on their plates?
- Say No to Plastic: Eco-Friendly Hotels 向塑膠說不!打造環保飯店
- UN SDG Focus: SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) & SDG 14 (Life Below Water)
- Prompt: Why is it important for hotels to reduce plastic waste? Share two simple ways a hotel can encourage guests to bring their own toothbrushes or reusable water bottles.
- Supporting Local Communities and Small Businesses支持在地社區與小型企業
- UN SDG Focus: SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) & SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities)
- Prompt: How can tour guides or hotel staff encourage tourists to buy local souvenirs, eat at family-owned restaurants, and respect local traditions?
- Protecting Nature and Wildlife at Tourist Hotspots

- UN SDG Focus: SDG 15 (Life on Land) & SDG 14 (Life Below Water)
- Prompt: Choose one famous natural attraction. What can tourists do to protect the environment and wildlife while enjoying their vacation there?
- Grading:
Expression: The correctness of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and fluency 50%
Content: Structure of narrative, plot coherence, and completeness 30%
Creativity: Imagination and appeal 10%
Technical: Audio/video quality 10%
- Judges: The Language Center will invite three or more industry experts to serve as judges.
- Notes:
- The video must be an original work created by the contest participant(s). The use of AI to create the video, forgery, plagiarism, improper disclosure of personal information, or any other infringement of intellectual property rights or copyrights is strictly prohibited. The participant(s) shall be solely responsible for any legal liability arising from such violations. The organizer reserves the right to unilaterally disqualify the participant(s) from the competition and revoke any awards at any stage of the activity.
- Participants who violate the rules will be disqualified and receive no points.
- If you are on the Language Center blacklist, you may not join this activity.
- The organizer claims the rights of this activity and the rights to revise. If the activity is revised, notice will be posted on the website without notification.
- The awards for this competition will be granted in the form of official merit commendations. If the application period for rewards and disciplinary actions has already closed when the competition results are announced, the commendations will be recorded in the following semester.
